Improving transport for Victorians with limited mobility: Multi-purpose Taxi Program Discussion Paper

VCOSS believes the Multi-purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) can be transformed into a broader mobility assistance program subsidising a diversity of transport options for people with limited mobility, streamlining access to a variety of accessible transport assistance, and providing clear, factual information and education to assist people to maximise their mobility choices.

Towards better transport for regional Victoria

Public transport is important for people experiencing disadvantage because it allows people to access valuable life opportunities, including employment, education, health and community services and opportunities to participate in family and community life. VCOSS members report that many of the people they work with find it difficult to access their services, as well as healthcare, work and social activities, because of the lack of transport options in rural and regional Victoria.

Taxi reform: the next steps

The Victorian taxi industry is facing a shake-up from reforms stemming from the Victorian Taxi Industry Inquiry. Now that the Victorian Government has responded, the real task will be the long process of implementation, which will need further consultation and investigation by the new Taxi Services Commission, headed up by former ACCC Chairman, Graeme Samuel.
