2010 State Election platform

See the VCOSS 2010 State Election Platform, and our media release from the time:

This year’s State election must focus on fairer outcomes for all Victorians by tackling the causes of the issues that face them, including poverty, disadvantage and crime.

The Victorian Council of Social Service released its 2010 State Election Platform, calling on parties to look at the ‘cause, not consequence’ in developing their election policies, from housing and planning to health, education and wellbeing.

‘It is shocking that rural and regional Victorians are currently more likely to have poorer health outcomes, leave school earlier, earn less, and find it harder to put food on the table for their families than people who live in metropolitan areas.’

‘People in rural and regional communities can face profound challenges and need reliable access to basic services such as health and mental health services, affordable housing, drug and alcohol support, public transport and quality education resources.’
