Joining VCOSS
VCOSS members and supporters are part of a powerful movement for change.
The Victorian Council of Social Service is the peak body for Victoria’s social and community sector and the state’s premier social advocacy body.
We exist to end poverty and disadvantage in Victoria, and do this by supporting organisations and activities with a similar purpose through research and advocacy, and by connecting, convening and working with others.
Our strength comes from our members and the people at the heart of their work. VCOSS members include frontline service organisations, peak bodies and advocacy groups, working across a wide range of areas including health and wellbeing, children and family services, family violence, early childhood, housing, food systems, economic and civic participation, justice, disability and disaster response.
Members are supported by a range of VCOSS programs, benefits and initiatives, such as:
- Participation in VCOSS networks, policy forums and communities of practice
- Access to tailored strategic information and advice
- Invitations to exclusive events and capacity building exercises
- Coordinated advocacy and campaigning activity.
As the peak body for the Victorian community sector, we also represent our members on many government boards, advisory panels and steering groups.
Social and community service organisations of any size are invited to become VCOSS members.
As well as organisations, VCOSS welcomes applications from individual supporters. You can apply to become a VCOSS supporter here.
Benefits for members and supporters are laid out in the table below.

How much does it cost to become a VCOSS member?
VCOSS membership fees are set on a ‘sliding scale’ in response to organisations’ audited annual financial income.
This creates equity in the VCOSS membership base, allowing organisations of all sizes to access VCOSS membership. A more inclusive membership means VCOSS, as the peak body for our sector, has a richer understanding of the issues, and can better advocate around the complexity and nuances of our sector’s needs.
